What BMS Salaries are telling us

In early 2024, we launched the UK BMS Salary Survey to get under the skin of the current market in the UK—from Service Engineers in London to Commissioning Engineers in Leeds. The results are in, and they paint a clear picture: demand is up, salaries are shifting, and candidates are asking smarter questions.

More importantly, this survey laid the groundwork for something we’re really proud of: our brand new real-time BMS Salary Checker, now live on the VIGO website.

Here’s a breakdown of the key insights and what they mean for both clients and candidates navigating the UK Building Management Systems (BMS) market.

🔎 What BMS Salaries and the survey data is telling us!

1. Salaries Are Rising but Unevenly

Across the board, we saw salary uplifts ranging from 5% to 18% compared to last year. However, that growth is highly role and region-dependent. London-based Service Engineers with Tridium experience command top-tier salaries, while in more rural parts of the UK, wages have seen only marginal increases.

  1. Trend, Tridium and Niagara Experience Carries a Premium

The biggest salary differentiator? Platform knowledge. Candidates with Trend, Tridium, Niagara, or integration experience are consistently earning £5K–£10K more than those without.

3. The Skills Gap is Getting Wider

Despite the higher pay, many companies are struggling to fill roles. With experienced engineers in short supply and fewer junior engineers coming through the pipeline, the skills gap is now one of the biggest threats to growth in smart building projects.

4. More Candidates Are Asking About Salary Transparency

Nearly 70% of respondents said they wouldn’t apply for a role without a salary range listed. Candidates are increasingly data-driven and value transparency—another reason we knew it was time to build a tool to help.
