VIGO is recruiting on behalf of an agile and dynamic Special Projects division operating within two primary vertical markets: data centres and pharmaceutical. This team is also responsible for delivering major EU projects that may fall outside these core sectors. As part of the Special Projects team, the Design Engineer will play a key role in delivering data centre projects across the UK and Europe.
Role Overview
The Design Engineer will be responsible for creating building management system (BMS) designs that meet project requirements. This includes developing schedules, producing descriptions of operation, modifying panel designs, and creating or updating drawings. The role requires a strong understanding of software and graphics development, along with in-depth knowledge of application-level interfaces. Additionally, the Design Engineer will support commissioning delivery through all five levels of QA/QC, from Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) through to Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
Key Responsibilities
Lead design works on projects, ensuring delivery aligns with specified design standards
Create project-specific software and graphics
Ensure compliance with H&S and CDM requirements, including documentation
Liaise with the Special Projects team to highlight any design or engineering changes
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients
Attend site-based design and commissioning meetings
Support the Project Manager with routine site activities
Oversee the commissioning process, ensuring QA/QC documentation is completed and signed off at each stage

Commercial awareness
Understanding of safe working systems and H&S practices
Experience with systems such as Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens, and ALC
Knowledge of Niagara-based systems
Ability to interpret and modify existing BMS control strategies
Understanding of HVAC systems
Electrically competent
Strong PC skills (Word and Excel)
